Frequently Asked Questions
Why are olive wood kitchen utensils more expensive than other wood products?
Olive wood is considered one of the highest quality and rarest types of wood worldwide. It grows very slowly, is only available in limited quantities, and has an exceptionally dense structure.
Our olive wood kitchen utensils, such as cutting boards, Bowls, and kitchen helpers, are made from solid wood and carefully handcrafted. The unique grain and elaborate processing make each piece a durable one-of-a-kind.
Where does the olive wood come from and where are the kitchen utensils made?
The olive wood for our kitchen utensils comes exclusively from the Sfax region in Tunisia, known for one of the best olive wood qualities worldwide. All items are handcrafted from solid olive wood there. Through local production, we can ensure sustainable sourcing and short transport routes.
Are olive wood kitchen utensils food safe?
Yes, all our olive wood kitchen utensils are 100% food safe. They are only finely sanded and treated with natural cooking oil – without any varnishes or chemical additives. This way, you can use them safely for all foods.
Are your kitchen utensils made of solid olive wood or glued?
Our cutting boards, Bowls and kitchen helpers are always made from a single piece of solid olive wood. No glue layers or joints are used.
An exception is the utensil box: It is glued from several pieces of olive wood to ensure shape stability and sufficient volume. Here too, we use only solid olive wood - no plywood or foreign materials.
Are olive wood kitchen utensils sustainable?
Yes, olive wood is a particularly sustainable material. The trees are only felled when they no longer bear fruit. The wood is fully utilized, so no resources are wasted.
By choosing olive wood, you consciously opt for durability, short transport routes, and resource-saving processing.
Are olive wood cutting boards and kitchen helpers heat resistant?
Olive wood is excellently suited for use in the kitchen due to its high density and hardness. It can withstand contact with hot foods without warping or cracking. However, direct contact with hot stovetops or ovens should be avoided.
Can olive wood kitchen utensils splinter or crack?
Olive wood is extremely robust and durable. With proper care, the risk of cracks or splinters is very low. It is important not to soak the kitchen utensils in water for extended periods and to regularly maintain them with a bit of oil. This keeps them supple and stable.
Does the color of olive wood change over time?
Olive wood naturally has a warm, honey-yellow tone. Through contact with light, air, and food, the wood may darken slightly over time. This is a natural process and highlights the individual character of each surface. Regular oiling brings out the grain beautifully.
How should I care for my olive wood kitchen utensils?
To keep your olive wood looking beautiful for a long time:
- Always clean by hand with warm water and mild detergent
- Thoroughly dry after washing
- Regularly rub with some cooking oil to maintain the wood
- Never clean in the dishwasher - heat and moisture damage the wood
